Serious injuries reported after tractor-trailer crash shuts down both sides of I-95 in Westbrook

Serious injuries were reported in a crash on Interstate 95 in Westbrook on Friday morning involving a tractor-trailer that lost multiple loads of plywood during the collision.

The crash was reported in the area of Exit 64 on I-95 South just after 7:40 a.m. and led to both sides of the highway being shut down, according to Connecticut State Police.

State police said serious injuries were reported, though it was not immediately clear how many people were injured.

According to the state Department of Transportation, multiple vehicles were involved. The DOT said both sides of the highway were closed as a result of the crash. The northbound side of the highway was shut down because of “load spillage” from the collision, DOT officials said.

According to state police, the tractor trailer lost “loads of plywood” during the crash. The state police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Squad responded to investigate.

Motorists have been asked to avoid the area, as traffic is being diverted off of Exit 64.
