Sip and slurp at Yorktown’s wine and oyster festival this weekend

Sip and slurp to kick off October.

Head to the Yorktown Wine & Oyster Festival on Saturday and Sunday at Riverwalk Landing.

About 20 wineries and distilleries will offer samples of their signature blends, and guests can pair them with oysters (raw, roasted or steamed) and seafood favorites. Vendors will include Mattaponi Winery, Vintner’s Cellar Winery of Yorktown and Copper Fox Distillery.

Grab fare from one of the eight food trucks that are scheduled to attend. Dong’s will have seafood lumpia, Hungry Hungry Arrow will offer seafood rolls on frybread, and Kathi’s Clam Chowder will serve up clam chowder and lobster rolls.

The festival will also have an Oyster Shuck Off competition, a chef’s demonstration with Ember Restaurant, live music and other activities.

Tickets are required to enter. They cost $50 for a one-day pass, $85 for two days and $20 for nondrinkers.

Proceeds will benefit Sister Cities Yorktown, Yorktown Hospice House, The Fifes and Drums of York Town, and other organizations.

That’s worth wining and brining for.
