Sixth suspect arrested following Boynton Beach ‘Peace in the Hood’ shooting

A sixth suspect has been arrested months after a shooting between rival gangs erupted at a “Peace in the Hood” event in Boynton Beach, injuring three women, police say.

Tevens Darnell Bradley, 19, is charged with improper exhibition of a firearm with a felony gang enhancement. Boynton Beach Police arrested him Wednesday with the help of U.S. Marshals, the department said in a social media post. He was released the same day on $1,000 bond, according to jail records.

Bradley was the last person publicly identified by police as a suspect in the July 5 shooting, during which rival gangs began firing indiscriminately at each other amid the hundreds of people gathered at Sara Sims Park for an unpermitted event. He was charged in July, according to court records, but remained at large for several months.

Fifth suspect in ‘Peace in the Hood’ shooting arrested, Boynton Police say

By August, Boynton Beach Police had arrested four men in connection with the shooting: Jamarion Petty, 19; Kenneth Hollis, 25; Javon Johnson, 19; and D’Andre Leger, 20. Then, in September, the police department announced that they were still looking for two more suspects: Bradley and Travonte Kemar Edwards, 21. Police arrested Edwards in November.

Bradley, Edwards and Johnson are believed to be members of the “16th Ave Boys” gang, according to a probable cause affidavit, while Hollis is affiliated with the “Cherry Hill Boyz.”

The evening of the shooting, members of the 16th Ave Boys were standing next to a fence on the south side of the park while members of the Cherry Hill Boyz stood across the street next to a church, according to probable cause affidavits. Video previously released shows multiple men near the park’s fence appearing to hold guns or tuck them into their waistbands before the gunfire erupted.

People ran and ducked in all directions, some who had children with them, the video showed. Several people took cover behind parked cars, while others dashed into their cars and drove away from the area. Multiple cars were riddled with bullets. Three women were shot. One woman’s attorney in July said he filed a notice of claim against the city of Boynton Beach, alleging it failed to protect attendees.

The city has said that the shooting did not take place within the park’s boundaries.

“The gathering that preceded the shooting was not organized, permitted, or sanctioned by the City of Boynton Beach or the City of Boynton Beach Police Department,” spokesperson Chelsea Sanabia previously said in a statement to the South Florida Sun Sentinel. “While individuals may have been in the vicinity of Sims Park, the initial investigation shows the shooting incident occurred outside the boundaries of City-owned property, not within the park itself.”
