The Norfolk Admirals’ road to redemption has a long way to go, as Reading registered a series victory with a 3-1 triumph Sunday at Santander Arena. Brandon Saigeon scored twice for the Royals, an affiliate of the NHL’s Philadelphia Flyers.
The Royals won the last two of a three-game, two-city series after losing the first, so Norfolk (6-15-2-0) has dropped nine of its last 10 contests and remains in the cellar of the ECHL’s eight-team North Division.
Reading (13-10-2-0) went ahead 14:59 into the game when Saigeon scored, then made it 2-0 at the 8:28 mark of the second period on Alec Butcher’s goal.
The Admirals sliced the deficit in half when Ben Zloty netted a power-play goal 3:04 into the third period, off assists from Jack O’Leary and Kevin Conley. But the Royals all but clinched the victory when Saigeon scored into an empty net with 1:15 left on the clock, giving goalie Christian Propp a defeat.
Former Admirals goalie Yaniv Perets capped his 29-save victory by getting an assist on the clinching goal.
Norfolk, 0-2 in its season-long 10-game trip, will start a series in Massachusetts against the Worcester Railers with a 7:05 p.m. Wednesday game.
