Social media trend encouraging public urination reported in CT

A social media trend encouraging individuals to urinate in various public places has reportedly made its way into Connecticut.

The nationwide trend has led to multiple complaints in Bristol where the police department asked the public in a Facebook post over the weekend for help identifying individuals who were believed to potentially be involved. The post was later revised to indicate police had made contact with the individuals they were seeking. The photos were also removed.

“Our department is aware of a nationwide trend of people claiming to be urinating in public places,” the department wrote. “We are currently investigating similar complaints in our city.”

As of Wednesday afternoon, the post had garnered nearly 200 reactions, 175 comments and more than two dozen shares.

Some users pointed to other social media posts reportedly showing people urinating at Muzzy Field and a high school in Bristol. Others argued that individuals are using water bottles or apple juice to fake the trend.

A social media account assuming responsibility for some of the posts filmed in Bristol claimed that a bottle was punctured with a pen to recreate the trend.

Other videos posted to social media appear to have been possibly filmed at the campuses of the University of Connecticut and Eastern Connecticut State University.

A UConn spokesperson did not immediately provide comment in response to an email seeking information on Wednesday.

A spokesperson for ECSU did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
