Williamsburg-James City County, York County and New Kent County schools will be closed Friday because of the impending winter weather.
Expected snowfall in the area in the morning, along with possible icy road conditions, led the school systems to make the decision to close. Precipitation is expected to begin after 3 a.m., beginning with snow and later possibly mixing with rain, according to the National Weather Service.
Other schools affected include:
Hampton: Remote learning day.
Isle of Wight County: Closed.
King William County and West Point: Remote learning day.
King and Queen County: Remote learning day.
Mathews County: Closed.
Newport News: Remote learning day.
Poquoson: Remote learning day.
A winter weather advisory was issued for much of the state’s central region and northern North Carolina until early morning Saturday, the weather service said. The area isn’t expected to see more than about 2 inches of snow, but the area around Richmond may experience up to 3.
The entire Peninsula, Suffolk and the western portion of Chesapeake in Hampton Roads are expected to receive some snow.
