Source: Patriots granting Kendrick Bourne’s request to be released after failed trade talks

The Patriots are granting wide receiver Kendrick Bourne’s request to be released, a source confirmed to the Herald’s Andrew Callahan.

The move comes after the Patriots failed to finalize a trade that would have sent Bourne to the Vikings, who acquired Panthers wide receiver Adam Thielen on Wednesday morning.

Bourne made the Patriots’ initial 53-man roster on Tuesday, and will be released Wednesday. The 30-year-old wide receiver has been with the Patriots since 2021. He signed a three-year contract extension last offseason and has been the subject of trade talks for most of his time in New England.

Bourne suffered a foot injury in the second week of training camp during an intra-squad scrimmage and hasn’t practiced since early August. He is now healthy and was expected to practice in Foxboro had he remained with the Patriots. Bourne missed five games last season while recuperating from a torn ACL suffered in October 2023.

The move leaves the Patriots with Stefon Diggs, DeMario Douglas, Kayshon Boutte, Mack Hollins, Efton Chism, Kyle Williams and Javon Baker.
