South Florida’s only Best Buy Outlet to close after a year and a half

That didn’t last long.

A year and a half after a Best Buy Outlet store replaced a regular Best Buy store that had closed in Margate, employees are telling customers that the outlet store will close by Nov. 1.

Until then, shoppers will be able to find even steeper discounts on the store’s ample supply of discounted refrigerators, ranges, dishwashers, microwave ovens, large-screen TVs, home theater receivers and speakers, laptop computers, desktop monitors and more.

Here’s where the first Best Buy Outlet store in South Florida will soon open

BrandsMart USA to open in Dania Beach

All of the items are already discounted up to 70% as open-box, clearance, refurbished or pre-owned items.

David Slade, a supervisor at the store, said shoppers can expect an additional 20% discount off of the outlet prices of large appliances and big-screen TVs purchased and carried out of the store.

Customers who request the 20% discount on other items will likely get it, Slade said.

“We’re looking to clear everything out of here,” he said. “Whatever we don’t sell, we’re going to have to ship out to our other outlet in Ocoee.”

To further that goal, the 20% additional discount could be increased as well as the closing date draws closer, Slade said.

The outlet store, at 3300 NW 62nd Ave. in the Coral Landings III shopping center near the intersection of West Sample Road and S.R. 44, was the first and only one to open in South Florida. It joined 24 other Best Buy Outlets across the nation.

The company’s only other outlet store in Florida is near Orlando, at 9537 W. Colonial Drive in Ocoee. Employees said shoppers will still be able to order items from the Ocoee store online and have them shipped to their home or to a regular Best Buy store for pickup. All warrantees will remain in effect, they said.

The company closed an outlet store in Blaine, Minnesota, in July, news report say. According to Best Buy’s website, 23 outlet stores remain open across 16 states.

In March 2024, the chain announced plans to close 24 of its regular stores by the end of the year and another 10 to 15 in 2025.

The closures coincide with a major shrinkage of the U.S. retail landscape, as shoppers continue to navigate to online marketplaces like Amazon, and even the internet versions of giant retailers such as Best Buy and Walmart.
