Starbucks’ viral Bearista cup debuts, along with holiday lineup

The new Starbucks Bearista holiday glass cup sold out quickly at many Richmond-area stores after its release on Thursday.

The Bearista cup is part of Starbucks’ new holiday cup line. It retails for $29.95.

Starbucks announced the cup in October, with anticipation building for fans who couldn’t wait to get their mitts on the honey bear-shaped glass cup.

“Omg freaking cute,” fans wrote on Starbucks’ Instagram after the new product was announced. Others said, “If I don’t get one of these I’ll cry.”

Here’s how Starbucks describes its new bear cup, “From cold brew to an iced matcha latte, your drinks have never looked cuter. The Starbucks Bearista glass cold cup brings instant joy to every sip.”

The Bearista cup became available starting Thursday at participating U.S. and Canadian stores, while supplies last.

Local stores received limited shipments. One Starbucks in Hanover only received three cups, which sold out at 5 a.m. when the store opened on Thursday.

Another Starbucks location received six Bearista cups, which immediately sold out.

The limited supply is already drawing ire online from Starbucks fans.

“Not cool marketing Starbucks to only have 1-2 at each store and allow your baristas to buy them before customers. You should have had additional stock for your baristas and at least 10-20 for each store,” a guest wrote on Starbucks’ Instagram, a sentiment which was quickly repeated by many.

The Bearista cup holds 20 ounces of cold liquid. The cup is glass, meaning hot beverages aren’t recommended. The little bear wears a smile, is holding a Starbucks cup and wears a green beanie as the lid. Customers also receive a free refill of iced coffee or tea with the purchase of a cup in the same visit.

A few Starbucks locations said they may receive another shipment, but they don’t know when.

The company also brought back fan-favorite holiday drinks and pastries.

This year’s drink lineup includes Peppermint Mocha, Iced Sugar Cookie Latte, Caramel Brulée Latte and Iced Gingerbread Chai. Later this season, Chestnut Praline Latte and the fan-favorite Eggnog Latte will return, according to Starbucks. As for pastries, the Snowman Cookie, Cranberry Bliss Bar and Sugar Plum Cheese Danish have returned. New items include the Polar Bear Cake Pop and Cinnamon Pull-Apart Bread.
