Owen Zalc kicked a 51-yard field goal as time expired, capping a wild Dartmouth comeback and a 17-16 Ivy League win over Yale on Saturday at Hanover, N.H.
Yale led 3-0 at the half and 10-0 after the third quarter before the Big Green woke up with a 17-point fourth quarter.
Quarterback Grayson Saunier ran for two fourth-quarter touchdowns to give Dartmouth (3-1, 1-1) its first lead at 14-10 with 4:13 to go.
Yale QB Dante Reno then led the Bulldogs (2-2, 1-1) down the field on a 12-play, 70-yard drive that culminated in a 4-yard scoring pass to Graham Smith. The extra point was no good, setting the stage for the clinching field goal.
Central Connecticut State 24, Robert Morris 12: At Moon Township, Pa., Devon Anderson’s 55-yard interception return for a touchdown highlighted a dominant defensive effort and Northeast Conference road win. Brady Olson threw for 187 yards and a touchdown, and Elijah Howard rushed for 131 yards and a score for the Blue Devils (4-3, 2-0 NEC), who built a 14-0 first-quarter lead and never trailed.
Olson connected with Donovan Wadley on a 34-yard touchdown late in the first quarter, then Howard broke a 29-yard run less than five minutes later. Anderson’s interception return early in the third stretched the lead to 21-0 and Jack Hennessey’s 35-yard field goal in the fourth sealed it.
Trinity 49, Hamilton 0: At Clinton, N.Y., Jaxon Carroll completed 22 of 30 passes for 290 yards and three touchdowns as the Bantams dominated in their fourth straight NESCAC win after a season-opening loss.
Trinity (4-1) opened the scoring in the first quarter when Tyler DiNapoli rushed in from three yards out to complete a nine-play, 90-yard drive that provided all the points it would need. The Bantams’ defense held 1-4 Hamilton to eight first downs and 184 total yards, while the offense had 539 total yards.
Tate Hoffmeister, Jack Tosone and Nick Behrens caught Carroll’s scoring passes. On the ground, DiNapoli added a second scoring run, to go along with rushing TDs from Josh Woodforde and Drake Bellisari. Three other teams — Wesleyan, Williams and Amherst — are now tied with Trinity atop the NESCAC standings at 4-1 with four games to go.
Wesleyan 24, Colby 7: At Waterville, Maine, quarterback Matt Fitzsimons accounted for all three touchdowns as the Cardinals won their third straight in the NESCAC.
Fitzsimons (22-for-32, 258 yards) threw a pair of scoring passes and ran for another and his first-quarter 3-yard run opened the scoring. Primary target Donte Kelly caught 12 passes for 140 yards and a touchdown, while Blake Necomb hauled in six for 70 yards and a score.
Wesleyan (4-1) faces Bowdoin next before taking on the other three teams atop the NESCAC to close the season: home to Amherst, at Williams, and home to Trinity to close the season.
Sacred Heart 32, Howard 14: At Fairfield, Mitchell Summers rushed for a career high of 250 yards and two touchdowns, and Matt Kling made three field goals to lead 5-2 Pioneers. Summers, a true freshman, took off for an 80-yard touchdown on the first offensive play of the second half, eclipsing his early career high of 119 yards.
New Haven 69, Western Connecticut State 0: AJ Duffy threw for 354 yards and four touchdowns as the Chargers dominated their Division II opponents. Duffy completed 15 of 21 passes with scoring tosses to four different receivers.
