Throughout 2025, the photo staff of The Virginian-Pilot and Daily Press used their cameras to tell the stories of Hampton Roads.
From the backyard with Batman and his kids to the largest naval base in the world, where the president of the United States was visiting, we have a job that gives us the privilege to meet and document a variety of interesting subjects. The visual storytelling is sometimes sorrowful, as in the loss of two police officers in the line of duty, but mostly inspirational, showing the strength of the community as it moves through the seasons.
Our images become part of the archive, documenting when a woman was first elected governor of Virginia and the opening of a state-of-the-art wave pool in Virginia Beach. These are just a few highlights of the thousands of photos we take each year.
My staff, and I as the photo editor, appreciate the community’s letting us into their lives to tell their stories; ours is one of the great jobs. Thank you.
