Three Hartford shootings in same day leave one dead, three others injured

Police are investigating after four people were injured in separate shootings in Hartford on Sunday, leaving one person dead.

Investigators were alerted to two of the shootings when victims sought treatment at a local hospital and a third one when the city’s ShotSpotter system detected gunfire at 8:52 p.m. in the area of 131 Brook St., according to Sgt. Chris Mastroianni of the Hartford Police Department.

Responding officers found a man suffering from gunshot wounds, Mastroianni said. He was rushed to a hospital where he was pronounced dead, according to Mastroianni. The victim’s identity was not immediately released.

Mastroianni said police then learned that a second victim believed to be injured in the same shooting had taken himself to a hospital, where he was treated for injuries not considered life-threatening.

The shooting on Brook Street came nearly four hours after officers were contacted by a local hospital and notified that a man had come into the emergency room seeking treatment for a gunshot wound to his outer extremity, Mastroianni said. The injury was not considered life threatening, according to Mastroianni, who said the victim was listed in stable condition.

Mastroianni said investigators were not immediately able to piece together where the victim had been shot.

That shooting came after police at 3:30 p.m. learned that a man walked into the emergency room at a local hospital and was suffering from a gunshot wound, according to Mastroianni. The man was listed in stable condition and was treated for an injury not considered life-threatening.

The scene of the afternoon shooting could also not immediately be identified by investigators, Mastroianni said.

The Hartford Police Major Crimes Division is investigating all three shootings.
