In a weather-delayed football game Thursday night, Petersburg won 30-6 at home over Norcom.
The Crimson Wave (2-0), coached by former Petersburg and Hampton University football and track star Jerome Mathis, once an NFL receiver and kickoff returner, rolled past the visiting Greyhounds (0-2) as Cavonta Carey ran for two Petersburg touchdowns.
A Carey run and a safety in the first quarter gave Petersburg an 8-0 edge. Norcom’s Di’Andre Atkins caught a touchdown pass late in the second quarter, only to see the Crimson Wave’s Keyon Ridley return the kickoff to the end zone. A two-point conversion put Petersburg ahead 16-6 at halftime.
Jalen Ray and Carey raced for second-half touchdowns.
Norcom opened its season with a 14-0 loss to Thomas Jefferson of Richmond and hopes to break through on offense.
