Ticked Off! @politicians

I’m ticked off that our politics and politicians are not doing their job. Governing is serious business! In the challenging times that we are in, with unregulated technology potentially disrupting the course of human endeavor and the elusive American dream, and the mega impact corporate overlords are having on the priorities of government policies. We need our politics to serve the people, not monied interests.
Regarding “Great Day in the Country”: Parking on the CrossLife Church property was $10, and every dollar from that goes directly to scholarships for Oviedo and Hagerty High School seniors and to teacher grants. Nearby parking fees are set and collected by the owners of those lots — just like off-site parking at any other large craft fair. “Great Day in the Country” is a nonprofit, all-volunteer event hosted by the Oviedo Woman’s Club. No one is paid; every bit of our work supports students, teachers and local causes. So, the real question is: Is it really a “rip-off” to help Oviedo’s students and teachers? Especially when the 2024 event generated $68,000 in scholarships and grants for our community. Not a rip-off by any stretch.
I’m ticked off about the recklessness and arrogance displayed by the local tax money sinkhole, Visit Orlando, as revealed by the Sentinel and especially columnist Scott Maxwell. Orlando could survive and thrive with a greatly reduced agency to promote tourism. $105 million is outrageous. Try spending $10 million and use the other $95 million annually on the best public transit system in all of Florida.
