Despite a stirring comeback from six runs behind before a crowd of 4,111, the Norfolk Tides lost 9-7 Sunday in 10 innings to the Nashville Sounds at Harbor Park.
The Sounds won the series 4-2.
The Tides (28-33 in the International League’s second half, 58-76 overall) will head to Durham for a six-day, seven-game series starting at 6:35 p.m. Tuesday. They’ll return to Harbor Park the following week for a series against Jacksonville.
Norfolk trailed 6-0 before belting three home runs in the eighth inning. Jordyn Adams and Livan Soto clubbed solo shots before TT Bowens’ three-run homer to center trimmed Nashville’s lead to 6-5. In the ninth, Jud Fabian scored the tying run on Enrique Bradfield Jr.’s sacrifice fly.
In the 10th, though, RBI singles by Freddy Zamora, Steward Berroa and Brandon Lockridge against Houston Roth (4-1) gave Nashville a 9-6 edge. The Tides got the potential tying run to the plate in the 10th, but they only scored when automatic runner Reed Trimble, who was 3 for 5, came home on José Barrero’s sharp groundout to shortstop.
Nashville, the Milwaukee Brewers’ top farm club, improved to 32-31, 76-60.
