The Norfolk Tides’ offensive woes in Georgia continued Friday night with a 1-0 loss to Gwinnett before 2,003.
The Stripers have started the six-game series 4-0 entering Saturday night’s 6:05 clash at Coolray Field in Lawrenceville as the Tides’ overall slide reached four.
Both teams had just three hits. The only one that produced a run was David McCabe’s 426-foot homer to right-center field with two out in the fourth inning off Carson Ragsdale (1-1).
The Tides (25-28 in the International League’s second half, 55-71 overall), playing their first series since standout hitters Samuel Basallo and Dylan Beavers were called up to the Baltimore Orioles, have just seven hits combined in the last three games against the Stripers (28-26, 57-72). Two of Friday’s were a double and single by Maverick Handley.
Ragsdale lasted five innings, striking out three and giving up two hits. Josh Walker and the rehabbing Albert Suárez combined to pitch the final three innings.
Gwinnett left-hander José Suarez (2-1) gave up all three hits, but no walks, and struck out six in a six-inning start for a team playing in “Georgia Peaches” uniforms. Blake Burkhalter, Enoli Paredes and Daysbel Hernández each threw an inning of relief for the Stripers to extend their streak in a 1-hour, 57-minute game.
Right-hander Cameron Weston (3-7, 4.85 earned-run average) is the Tides’ scheduled starter Saturday.
