No. 2 Miami vs. Louisville

Where: Hard Rock Stadium, Miami Gardens

TV: ESPN

Coaches: UM’s Mario Cristobal 27-16 (89-76 overall), Louisville’s Jeff Brohm 23-9 (89-53 overall).

Line: Miami is favored by 13.5 points.

Weather: 79 degrees, 0 percent chance of rain.

Quick slant: Both the Hurricanes and Cardinals are coming off a bye week. The UM-Louisville showdowns the last two years have been tight, high-scoring affairs. Miami possesses the rivalry trophy, the Schenellenberger Trophy, which honors legendary coach Howard Schnellenberger, who led both programs.

About No. 2 Miami (5-0, 1-0 ACC): Miami’s recent schedule has been quirky: UM played Florida on Sept. 20, then had a bye week, followed by the road game against FSU on Oct. 4 and then another bye week. The Hurricanes hope those bye weeks will mean they’re healthy and firing on all cylinders as they move into the second half of the season.

About Louisville (4-1, 1-1 ACC): The Cardinals may be unranked, but they are one of the ACC’s top teams. Louisville’s defense has played well this season, holding opponents to 21 points per game, which is fourth in the conference.

Three things to watch

1. Led by Rueben Bain Jr. and Akheem Mesidor, Miami’s defensive line has been one of the nation’s best. On the other hand, Louisville’s offensive line has struggled to protect quarterback Miller Moss and open up space in the running game. This mismatch could prevent the Cardinals’ offense from doing much at Hard Rock Stadium on Friday night.

2. The battle in the trenches when the Hurricanes have the ball should be more evenly matched. The Cardinals’ defense has performed well, racking up 14 sacks. Miami’s offensive line has been a strength, grading out well against strong defenses like Notre Dame and Florida. The Hurricanes will need it to keep holding up against a solid Cardinals pass rush, which Pro Football Focus ranks second in the nation.

3. Louisville coach Jeff Brohm is known for his offensive playcalling, and he has playmakers on that side of the ball. Wide receiver Chris Bell has arguably been the top receiver in the conference, leading the ACC with just over 100 yards per game. Homestead native Isaac Brown had a breakout year in 2024, and he’s continued his solid running this season. Brown, a sophomore running back, has been limited by injury but is still fifth in the ACC with 7.26 yards per carry.
