Two people were arrested Wednesday at a home in Wallingford where state and local police allegedly seized several guns with high-capacity magazines.
The multi-agency investigation involved surveillance at a house on Nod Brook Street where 21-year-old Di’Lon Gray allegedly resides, according to Lt. Stephen S. Jaques, Jr. of the Wallingford Police Department.
Jaques said authorities began surveilling the home when they developed information around 7 p.m. suggesting Gray was illegally in possession of firearms. He said the investigation involved his agency as well as the New Haven Police Department, the Violent Crime Task Force-New Haven Division and the New Haven Auto Theft Task Force.
According to Jaques, authorities were aware that Gray had a warrant out for his arrest, which was held by Connecticut State Police, charging him with escape. While staked out, investigators spotted Gray leaving the residence and approaching a vehicle, Jaques said. He was taken into custody without an issue, according to Jaques.
Police identified a man in the vehicle as 18-year-old Tyrell Outlaw, who was detained before authorities allegedly found a loaded 9mm Glock 26 handgun with a high-capacity magazine in his waistband, Jaques said.
A search of the vehicle allegedly revealed a loaded .40 caliber Glock 22 handgun with a high-capacity magazine in the area where Gray had been seated, according to Jaques. Detectives then obtained a warrant to search the residence and allegedly found a .223 caliber AR-15 rifle, which was also equipped with a high-capacity magazine, and .556 caliber ammunition, Jaques said.
Gray and Outlaw were taken to the state police Troop I barracks and charged with multiple firearm-related offenses, Jaques said. They were held in custody and were expected to appear on Thursday in Meriden Superior Court.
According to Jaques, authorities are expected to file additional charges connected to the AR-15 which was seized.
“This investigation showcased how multiple police agencies collaborate to achieve timely and effective results,” Jaques said in a statement.
