Two people were being treated for gunshot wounds in West Haven early Sunday morning, police said.
West Haven Police Department Public Information Officer Sgt. Scott Allard said city dispatchers began receiving multiple calls reporting gunshots being heard in the 200 block of Saw Mill Road at about 2 a.m. Sunday. It was believed that one person was shot at that point, he said.
Officers arrived on scene and were told that the person who had been shot left the area prior to police arrival, Allard said in an email.
“It wasn’t until a short time later that the West Haven Police Department was advised that there were two gunshot victims from West Haven and were being treated at an area hospital,” Allard said.
West Haven Police Detectives have since assumed the investigation, he said, noting additional information will be provided as it becomes available. The 200 block of Saw Mill Road is near the police department and not far from entrances to Interstate 95.
