Two people face charges in connection with the burglary of a residential garage in Wolcott last week when one of the suspects allegedly dragged a police officer from a vehicle during his escape.
Wayne Lydem, 48, and Annalucy Lachance, 47, each face charges in connection with a burglary reported on Aug. 25 at a home on Wolcott Road, according to the Wolcott Police Department.
Lydem has been charged with third-degree burglary, possession of burglary tools, assault on a police officer, interfering with a police investigation, reckless driving and disobeying the signal of an officer, police said. According to police, officers responded to the home on a report of a burglary in progress and, using video surveillance footage, were able to identify Lydem as a suspect. Police noted that they were familiar with him from previous incidents.
According to police, officers spotted Lydem driving on Wolcott Road and pulled him over in the area of Beach Road. As they approached the vehicle they asked him get out, but he allegedly refused, police said.
When police tried to remove Lydem from the vehicle, he allegedly hit the gas and dragged an officer a short distance before taking off very quickly, police said. The officer suffered minor injuries.
Shortly thereafter, police spotted Lydem’s vehicle as it was being driven into his driveway not far away in the 1100 block of Wolcott Road. Lydem was not in the vehicle, which was now being driven by his girlfriend, Lachance, according to police. Police claimed that Lachance refused to speak to officers.
Police continued investigating and obtained warrants for Lydem and Lachance.
Lydem was arrested on Aug. 29 after he was spotted while a detective was surveilling his home. Police said he began walking on Wolcott Road after leaving the home and started allegedly fleeing when he saw the detective.
Lydem was taken into custody following a brief foot pursuit and was initially held on $250,000 bond. He also had a warrant out for his arrest for allegedly evading the scene of an accident in Wolcott as well as eight outstanding warrants. Those warrants were held by police departments in area towns
According to court records, he remains held on a $50,000 bond following a hearing in Waterbury Superior Court. Lydem, who has not entered a plea to the charges, is due back in court on Oct. 3.
Lachance was arrested on Monday and was initially held on a $50,000 bond. She remains held on a $20,000 bond following an arraignment hearing and is also due back in court on Oct. 3. She has not entered a plea, records show.
