Two people injured following crash on I-95 in Norwalk involving street sweeper, construction vehicle

Two people were taken to a hospital, including one who had to be extricated by firefighters, after a crash on Interstate 95 in Norwalk on Tuesday night involving a street sweeper and a construction vehicle.

The collision occurred on the southbound side of the highway just before the Route 7 interchange shortly after 10 p.m., according to Dep. Fire Chief Jonathan Maggio of the Norwalk Fire Department.

Maggio said the collision involved a privatized street sweeper and a construction vehicle with an attenuator system that had been deployed, as the left lane of the highway was closed.

The driver of the street sweeper was pinned in the vehicle and was suffering from an obvious leg injury, Maggio said. The individual was extricated by firefighters before being taken to a hospital.

The driver of the construction vehicle was taken to a hospital as well with injuries that were not immediately clear, according to Maggio.

The crash remains under investigation by Connecticut State Police.
