Two people are dead following an overnight crash in New Haven early Sunday morning.

Officers responded to a crash on Ella T. Grasso Boulevard between Adeline Street and Printer’s Lane just before 3 a.m. on Sunday, according to the New Haven Police Department.

Police said a vehicle hit a tree and caught on fire. The New Haven Fire Department arrived at the scene and extinguished the blaze but discovered a dead individual in the rear seat of the vehicle.

A short time later, officers were told that another individual involved in the same collision died after being transported to an area hospital by a private vehicle, according to police.

Police said the identities of the two victims were being withheld pending notification to their families.
