Two people were taken to a hospital on Thursday night following a fiery crash in Naugatuck on Route 68.

The collision occurred in the 200 block of Route 68 — which is also known as Prospect Street — around 9:45 p.m. when crews responded to the report of a two-vehicle crash, according to the Naugatuck Police Department.

After the collision, one of the vehicles caught on fire, police said. Crews with the Naugatuck Fire Department and Naugatuck Emergency Medical Services also responded to the scene.

Police said both drivers suffered injuries and were taken to area hospitals to be evaluated.

Route 68 was closed between Union Street and Picture Lane for about two hours while first responders were at the scene. Crews with the state Department of Transportation responded to apply sand to the road.
