Police have charged two people in connection with a multi-month armed robbery spree in Connecticut.
Nine armed robberies have been reported in in Meriden between September and November, according to Lt. Darrin McKay of the Meriden Police Department.
McKay said five of the holdups involved a man armed with what appeared to be a firearm. Police believe they thwarted a theft when they arrested 41-year-old Corey Alexis on Oct. 16 as he was allegedly preparing to commit a robbery at a local convenience store. He was taken into custody following a multi-agency investigation and a surveillance operation, after which he was found with a BB gun, McKay said.

Alexis is charged with carrying a dangerous weapon and attempt to commit first-degree robbery. He remains held on $300,000 bond while his case is pending in Meriden Superior Court, records show.
McKay said police expect to file additional charges against Alexis as they continue to investigate the robbery spree.
Four of the robberies in recent months were committed by an individual who was armed with a knife who targeted two local gas stations, McKay said. During one of them on Wednesday at the Citgo gas station at 182 Colony St., police arrested 32-year-old Guardy Roman and identified him as a suspect, according to McKay.
Roman is charged with first-degree robbery and fifth-degree larceny. He remains held on $150,000 bond and is expected to face additional charges as police investigate the spate of robberies, McKay said.
“The Meriden Police Department would like to thank members of the Middletown Police Department, Connecticut State Police, Watertown Police Department, West Hartford Police Department, and the FBI Safe Streets Task Force for their assistance during these investigations,” McKay said in a statement.
“The Meriden Police Department wants our community to know if a dangerous individual comes into our community and commits violent crimes against our residents and business owners, we will use every resource available to identify, arrest, and hold that person fully accountable,” McKay said.
“We will continue to work with our local, state, and federal partners to ensure offenders are prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. We will not tolerate those who threaten the safety of our community.”
