COLLEGE FOOTBALL
William & Mary cornerback Jalen Jones and linebacker Luke Banbury have been selected as finalists for the Buck Buchanan Award, which is presented to the national defensive player of the year in the FCS.
Jones, a former Deep Creek High star, had 12 passes defended, two interceptions and 39 tackles this season. Banbury had 137 tackles, ranking fourth nationally with 11.4 a game, and added two sacks and a fumble recovery.
Eleven William & Mary players earned All-CAA honors. Jones and Banbury joined offensive lineman Ryan McKenna and specialist Stephon Hicks on the first team. Offensive lineman Kadin Lynch made the second team, while quarterback Tyler Hughes, fullback/halfback Sean McElwain, tight end Jackson Blee, defensive lineman Justin Krueger and punter Carter Boyd were on the third team. Wide receiver Deven Thompson earned honorable mention.
Five Hampton University players picked up All-CAA honors. Linebacker Harold O’Neal III made the second team, safety Will Hicks was on the third team and offensive lineman Omari Allen, defensive lineman Korede Sogbesan and punter Brett Starling earned honorable mention.
Virginia linebacker Kam Robinson will miss the rest of the season with a knee injury, head coach Tony Elliott said. Robinson is second on the team with 64 tackles, even though he missed three games earlier this season with a different injury.

Gloucester takes top VHSL honors
Gloucester swept top honors on the VHSL Class 4 all-state field hockey team, with midfielder Charlotte Houtz named Player of the Year and Joe Dougherty Coach of the Year.
Four Gloucester players joined Houtz as first-team selections: forwards Peyton Sutton and Aaliyah Mattocks, defender Ellary Miller and goalkeeper Addy Zabicki.
Grafton had two players make the first team: midfielder Ashtyn Blackburn and defender Taylor Secrist.
Hampton Roads players to make the second team include Warhill forward Ellie Kidd, Grafton forward Savannah Cherry, Jamestown defender Madeline Buckley and Gloucester defender Hailee Johnston.
