UCF has been fined $25,000 after fans stormed the court during the Knights’ 88-80 win over then-No. 11 Texas Tech on Saturday.
“In accordance with Big 12 Conference Principles and Standards of Sportsmanship, the Conference has issued a $25,000 fine of UCF for the court storming prior to the conclusion of Saturday’s men’s basketball victory over No. 11 Texas Tech,” the league said in a statement.
Fans stormed the court, but were forced to return to their seats when officials issued a foul on Chris Johnson against Texas Tech’s Lejuan Watts with .02 seconds left on the clock. Watts made one of two free throws to officially end the game.
It was the second time that UCF knocked off a ranked opponent at home this season, with the Knights having previously defeated then-No. 17 Kansas, 81-75 on Jan. 3.
UCF (17-4, 6-3 Big 12) travels to No. 8 Houston (19-2, 7-1 Big 12) on Wednesday, hoping to win four consecutive conference games for the first time since the end of the 2020-21 season when the program was a member of the American Athletic Conference.
