Thijs De Ridder scored a season-high 26 points and grabbed eight rebounds Friday as Virginia overcame Northwestern 83-78 at the Greenbrier Resort in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia.
Facing a power-conference opponent for the first time in the Ryan Odom coaching era, the Cavaliers (5-0) trailed much of the game.
But De Ridder and freshman reserve Chance Mallory, who tied his season high with 16 points and grabbed eight rebounds, sparked the Cavaliers before both fouled out. Malik Thomas scored 14 and fellow starter Dallin Hall 11.
UVA overcame 5-of-24 3-point shooting. The Cavaliers will stay at the Greenbrier to face Butler at 2 p.m. Sunday.
Jayden Reid led Northwestern (4-1) with 24 points.
William & Mary 104, Regent 57: Hosting an Education Day game for the first time, W&M cruised past Regent at Kaplan Arena.
Eight players tallied eight or more points for the Tribe (4-2), and everyone who saw action scored — all while kids from the Williamsburg-James City County school system watched on a field trip, helping increase the crowd to 2,675 for the 11 a.m. start.
Junior Kilian Brockhoff led all scorers with 20 points, converting 8 of 9 field-goal tries, including four 3-pointers. Freshman Kaleb Spencer recorded his first college double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds, to go along with four blocks and four steals.

No. 9 Brigham Young 98, No. 23 Wisconsin 70: Richie Saunders made five 3-pointers and scored 26 points, and AJ Dybantsa added 18 points and six rebounds in Salt Lake City to help the Cougars (4-1) earn their first victory over a Top 25 opponent this season.
Rob Wright III added 10 points, and his 11 assists were three more than Wisconsin (4-1) had as a team. Nick Boyd led Wisconsin with 16 points. Nolan Winter had 14 points and 14 rebounds, and John Blackwell and Braeden Carrington scored 14 apiece for the Badgers.
Florida State 98, Georgia Southern 72: Lajae Jones scored a career-high 36 points and tied a program record for the Seminoles (4-1) with 10 3-point baskets in Tallahassee. Shainen Carter led Georgia Southern (3-3) with 14 points.
No. 6 Louisville 74, Cincinnati 64: Ryan Conwell scored 17 of his season-high 25 points in the second half, and Mikel Brown Jr. had 22 points for the visiting Cardinals (5-0).
Shon Abaev and Day Day Thomas each scored 12 points to lead the Bearcats (4-1).
No. 17 Michigan State 84, Detroit Mercy 56: Coen Carr scored 11 points in the opening seven minutes and finished with 13, and Jeremy Fears had 18 points and 11 assists for the Spartans (5-0). The Titans (1-5), coached by former Michigan State point guard and assistant coach Mark Montgomery, started 0 of 10 from the field.
Clemson 70, West Virginia 67: Carter Welling scored 11 of his 13 points in the last four minutes for Clemson (5-1) in a come-from-behind win at the Charleston Classic.
Welling made his first 3-pointer with 3:11 to go to get the Tigers within two. On the next possession, Welling hit another from behind the arc for a 64-63 lead. Welling added a layup and a three-point play in the final minute to clinch the victory.
Honor Huff led the Mountaineers (5-1) with 17 points.
No. 5 Duke 100, Niagara 42: Patrick Ngongba II had 17 points and eight rebounds, Cameron Boozer contributed 14 points, and Isaiah Evans and Nikolas Khamenia both added 12 points for Duke, which shot 58% from the field to crack 100 points for the third straight game. The Blue Devils (6-0) sank 17 of 33 3-pointers, including the first of Ngongba’s career.
Trenton Waters had 15 points to pace the Purple Eagles (2-3), who are coached by former Duke point guard Greg Paulus.
No. 10 Florida 80, Merrimack 45: Rueben Chinyelu had 14 points and a career-high 21 rebounds for the host Gators (4-1), while Alex Condon recorded 20 points and 11 boards for his third double-double of the season.
The world’s tallest teenager, 7-foot-9 Olivier Rioux, got the loudest ovation of the night when he checked in with 2:26 to play. The tallest player in college basketball history got fouled the first time he touched the ball and hit a free throw. He also got his first rebound.
No. 12 Kentucky 88, Loyola Maryland 46: Collin Chandler and Kam Williams each scored 13 points to lead the Wildcats (4-2) over the visiting Greyhounds (2-5). Kentucky led 50-20 at the half.
No. 21 Arkansas 115, Jackson State 61: Malique Ewin scored 21 points in 14 minutes off the bench to lead seven Arkansas players in double figures. It was the most points Arkansas (5-1) has scored in a game since 2015.
Air Force 77, Southern Illinois-Edwardsville 63: Eli Robinson had 17 points and 10 rebounds to guide Air Force to a home victory. Caleb Walker added 16 points, nine rebounds and three blocks for the Falcons (2-4). The Cougars (3-3) were led by Ring Malith with 17 points.
Wake Forest 69, Memphis 68: Wake Forest won the the Baha Mar Championship consolation game on a Myles Colvin right-wing 3-pointer with one second left. The shot capped a scramble in which Tre’Von Spillers grabbed a loose ball and kicked it to Colvin, who rose in rhythm to erase a one-point deficit and stun a Memphis team that had controlled much of the second half.
Spillers powered the Demon Deacons with 24 points and six rebounds. Memphis relied on Dug McDaniel’s 24 points, including five 3s.
UNC Wilmington 81, Radford 73: Nolan Hodge had 18 points and seven rebounds for the Seahawks (4-1) in a road victory. The Highlanders (2-5) were led by Dennis Parker Jr. and Del Jones with 27 points apiece.
Charleston Southern 77, East Carolina 65: Former James Madison player Brycen Blaine had 23 points and 12 rebounds off the bench, while Luke Williams scored 13 points and added six assists for the visiting Buccaneers (4-3).
Giovanni Emejuru finished with 18 points, 12 rebounds and five blocks to pace the Pirates (2-3).
Marist 76, Army 65: Myles Parker led Marist with 17 points and six rebounds off the bench in a win in Poughkeepsie, New York, for the Red Foxes (3-2). The Black Knights (1-5) were led by Ryan Curry, who finished with 16 points and eight rebounds.
SMU 100, Arkansas State 69: B.J. Edwards scored a triple-double with a team-leading 24 points, 13 assists and 10 steals in Dallas, and all five starters for the Mustangs (6-0) scored in double digits. The Red Wolves (3-3) were led by TJ Caldwell, who scored 20.
No. 1 Purdue 86, No. 15 Texas Tech 56: Oscar Cluff had 15 points and 15 rebounds for the Boilermakers (6-0) against the Red Raiders (4-2) in the final of the Baha Mar Championship in Nassau, Bahamas.
Trey Kaufman-Renn had 12 points, Omer Mayer and Daniel Jacobsen each scored 11, and Fletcher Loyer, Braden Smith and CJ Cox had 10 points apiece for the Boilermakers. JT Toppin led Texas Tech with 15 points and eight rebounds, while Christian Anderson scored 13.
No. 19 UCLA 86, Presbyterian 46: Skyy Clark scored a season-high 22 points and Donovan Dent added 14 plus five assists for the Bruins (5-1) in Los Angeles. They shot 62.7% from the field.
