University of Virginia football coach Tony Elliott said Tuesday that he hopes quarterback Chandler Morris will return to a full practice Wednesday.
Morris suffered an upper-body injury in the second quarter of Saturday night’s 16-9 loss to Wake Forest at home.
Morris attended practices Monday and Tuesday, but didn’t participate. He’s a big reason for UVA’s resurgence this season, passing for 2,088 yards and 12 touchdowns and running for 214 yards and four scores.
The Cavaliers (8-2) dropped into a four-way tie for first place in the ACC at 5-1 with Georgia Tech, Pittsburgh and SMU.
UVA will visit Duke (5-4, 4-1) at 3:30 p.m. Saturday.

UVA donor pledges gift up to $1M
An anonymous donor has pledged to match every dollar contributed to the University of Virginia Baseball Enhancement Fund and baseball current-use scholarship growth for up to $1 million.
“What a tremendous opportunity that this matching gift provides,” UVA head coach Chris Pollard said. “On behalf of our players and coaches, I am thrilled to express our sincere gratitude for the transformative support.”
Ripken brothers to speak at VT event
Brothers Cal Ripken Jr. and Billy Ripken will be the keynote speakers for the Virginia Tech baseball program’s Baseball Night in Blacksburg on Jan. 24 at The Inn at Virginia Tech.
All of the event’s proceeds will go to support the Virginia Tech baseball program.

W&M’s Juhlin earns CAA award
William & Mary’s Lindsay Juhlin has been named the CAA Women’s Swimmer of the Week.
The senior from Washington, D.C., set a pool and school dual meet record in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:00.80 in the Tribe’s win over George Mason on Saturday. She was also part of the 200 medley relay team that won in a pool-record 1:40.12.
In addition, Juhlin won the 200 breaststroke in 2:15.90, which ranks second in the conference.

Two VWU players are All-ODAC
Virginia Wesleyan field hockey players Landry Meyer and Ava Stauch have earned ODAC all-conference honors.
Meyer made the second team, while Sauch is on the third team.
Meyer scored eight goals and added two assists, starting 14 games this season. Stauch had two goals and an assist while also starting 14 games.
HOCKEY
Admirals’ Conley gets promotion
The AHL’s Manitoba Moose have recalled forward Kevin Conley from the Norfolk Admirals.
The Wausau, Wisconsin, native scored two goals in three games with Norfolk.
The Admirals will continue a five-game homestand with a pair of contests against the Savannah Ghost Pirates at 7:05 p.m. Friday and Saturday at Scope.
WOMEN’S COLLEGE BASKETBALL
NSU to visit No. 15 Duke
The Norfolk State women’s basketball team will visit No. 15 Duke at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
It will be the second nationally-ranked opponent for the Spartans (2-1) this season.
NSU lost its season opener to No. 12 Mississippi 87-46, but bounced back with routs of District of Columbia (85-39) and Virginia State (77-53).

Virginia Wells, William & Mary’s Chief Medical Officer for Athletics, will retire at the end of the year. She began her career at W&M as Director of the Student Health Center 21 years ago, and has served in her current role since 2019.
The Washington Commanders placed cornerback Trey Amos on the reserve/injured list after fracturing his fibula. The team also signed wide receivers Robbie Chosen and Jacoby Jones from the practice squad and added wideout River Cracraft and defensive end DeMarcus Walker to fill their place. Amos, a second-round pick in this year’s draft, appeared in 10 games and recorded 32 tackles and six pass breakups.
