Virginia Beach announces schedule of road closures ahead of Oceana Air Show

The city of Virginia Beach announced road closures ahead of this weekend’s air show at Naval Air Station Oceana.

During the closure, access to London Bridge Road will be restricted. Drivers will be redirected to Central Drive and International Parkway. Closures will begin on Thursday and will continue every day in the afternoon through Sunday. According to the city, “extreme traffic congestion” is expected, so motorists are encourage to avoid the area altogether or find alternate routes during the show. For spectators, all attendees older than 18 years old are required to present an ID.

Gates will open at 8 a.m. The show begins at 10 a.m., and the Blue Angels perform at 3 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

Thursday

London Bridge Road will be closed from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Friday

Closures on London Bridge Road will be from 2 to 5 p.m.

Saturday

Closures will begin at 1:30 p.m. and continue until 5 p.m. The city warns there will also be “increased traffic” leaving Gate 1 on Oceana Boulevard and Gate 2 on London Bridge Road starting at 3 p.m.

Sunday

London Bridge Road will be closed from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Increased traffic from Gates 1 and 2 will begin at 3 p.m.

Getting to the gates

To access Gate 1 from Interstate 264, drivers traveling eastbound should use the First Colonial exit (21A). Westbound drivers should use Exit 21.  From First Colonial Road, drivers should continue on Oceana Boulevard and turn right on Tomcat Boulevard.

To access Gate 2, drivers traveling either direction should exit on Lynnhaven Parkway (Exit 19A). From Lynnhaven Parkway, drivers will then turn left on Holland Road. Drivers should take Holland Road and turn left at Dam Neck Road.  After continuing on Dam Neck Road, turn left on London Bridge Road until reaching Hornet Drive.
