A Virginia Beach police officer was arrested Friday night and charged with assault and public intoxication.

Police received a report of an assault at 8:34 p.m. in the 1500 block of Snowbird Court. Officers arrested 31-year-old Michaelena Scanniello of Virginia Beach at the scene.

Scanniello is charged with one count of misdemeanor assault and public intoxication. No further details about the incident have been made available. A spokesperson declined to comment on the pending investigation.

Scanniello has been an officer in the Virginia Beach Police Department since January 2021.

She has been placed on administrative leave, according to a police spokesperson.
