No. 19 Virginia Wesleyan’s win streak ends at 21
Virginia Wesleyan, ranked 19th in Division III, saw its season-opening winning streak finish at 21 with a 3-1 (25-22, 25-22, 18-25, 25-19) loss at Salisbury (17-5).
After beating Stevenson earlier Saturday, the Marlins lost to the Sea Gulls despite Hannah Smith’s 17 kills, 14 digs and five aces, Niya Nash’s 44 assists and 10 digs and Madi Schmidt’s 14 kills and five digs.
App State sweeps ODU
Appalachian State (13-4, 4-2 Sun Belt) completed a two-match sweep of Old Dominion (3-14, 0-6) in Boone, North Carolina, winning 3-0 (25-23, 25-21, 25-23) Saturday.
The Monarchs, who pushed the Mountaineers to five sets Friday, got 15 kills and nine digs from Elisa Maggi and 29 assists and seven digs from Kyra Hampton.

CNU rises to 17th in poll
In the d3football.com poll released Sunday, Christopher Newport climbed four spots to 17th, and Randolph-Macon returned at No. 25.
The Captains (5-0) climbed after a 69-7 rout at Vermont State Castleton, and the Yellow Jackets (5-1) re-entered after their fourth straight victory, a 77-20 dusting of Averett.

No. 1 CNU shuts out No. 11 Williams
Christopher Newport (13-0), ranked No. 1 in Division III, blanked No. 11 Williams 2-0 Sunday in Williamstown, Massachusetts.
Avery Mast and Courtney Hughlett scored in the third quarter in a span of 2 minutes, 25 seconds. The Ephs dropped to 6-5 as CNU’s Lily Kerr made four saves for her 23rd shutout as a Captain.
It was CNU’s first-ever triumph against a team from the New England Small College Athletic Conference, which has produced 13 of the past 17 national champions.

Freshman thrives for Hokies in first ACC win
Virginia Tech (5-2-4, 1-2-2 ACC) won 2-0 over Louisville (5-5-2, 1-5-0) in Blacksburg behind a dominant second-half performance from freshman Dagur Traustason, who has scored each of the Hokies’ last five goals.
He headed in a cross from Ian Marcano in the 66th minute and tapped in a pass from Declan Quill in the 90th.
Campbell blanks W&M
Campbell (6-3-4, 4-0-2 Coastal Athletic Association) won 4-0 at William & Mary (2-7-3, 1-4-1), taking the lead 20 seconds into the match on Marco Wright’s goal.
Lotem Ben Dov, Ronnie Garcia and Daniel Santos Rosa scored in the 20th, 34th and 75th minutes.
The Camels outshot W&M 21-7, and Tribe junior goalkeeper Ryan Eapen recorded a career-high 12 saves across 90 minutes.
No. 17 Lynchburg stops Virginia Wesleyan
Lynchburg (10-0-2, 4-0 Old Dominion Athletic Conference), ranked 17th in Division III, posted a 1-0 shutout of Virginia Wesleyan (7-4-1, 1-3-0) on Bruno Rihl Silva’s goal in the 77th minute. Ben Haynes made four saves for VWU, which was outshot 10-6.

No. 3 Stanford deals No. 1 UVA first defeat
No. 3 Stanford, playing at home, took a two-goal lead and held off No. 1 Virginia 2-1. It was the first loss of the year for the Cavaliers (10-1-2, 4-1-1 Atlantic Coast Conference).
Jasmine Aikey’s goal in the 27th minute and Charlotte Kohler’s in the 37th gave the Cardinal (11-1-1, 5-0-1) their margin.
Jill Flammia cut the deficit in half in the 72nd minute, but the Cavaliers, who held a 13-12 advantage in shots, couldn’t catch up.

Both VWU teams outstroke Chowan
Virginia Wesleyan’s men won 552-374 against Chowan, and the Marlins’ women defeated the Hawks 485-294.

2 Monarchs fall in region doubles semis
Old Dominion’s Yanis Moundir and Zechariah Hamrouni earned their way to the semifinals of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association’s Atlantic Regional doubles in Blacksburg before being beaten.
Victories of 8-3 against Mount St. Mary’s, 8-2 versus Maryland and 8-3 against VCU moved the two Monarchs into a semifinal against the top seeds, Virginia’s Mans Dahlberg and Dylan Dietrich. The Cavaliers won a 6-4, 6-7 (6-8), 1-0 (10-7) thriller.
In the other semifinal, No. 2 seeds Jangjun Kim and Keegan Rice of UVA ousted Virginia Tech’s Drew Fishback and Victor Kimpel 6-4, 6-4.
This is one of 13 ITA men’s regionals. The doubles champs and singles runners-up in each will qualify for the NCAA individual championships Nov. 18-23 near Orlando, Florida.
The ITA Conference Masters and ITA Sectionals will take place from Nov. 6-9 to determine the last qualifiers.
Also in doubles, William & Mary’s Oliver Hague and Gur Trakhtenberg and ODU’s Thomas Nelson and Adam Majchrzak lost in the round of 16. The Monarchs dropped an 8-7 (12-10) thriller to Kim and Rice.
In singles, Old Dominion’s Adam Majchrzak reached the quarterfinals before falling 6-4, 6-3 to top-seeded Rice. Trakhtenberg lost to the round of 16 before falling 4-6, 6-1, 6-2 to Dahlberg.
