It’s Day 7 of the civil trial in Newport News stemming from the Richneck Elementary School shooting.
The jury received the case just after 3 p.m. Wednesday. They met for about two hours before asking to break for the night.
Deliberations will resume Thursday at 9 a.m.
Attorneys for Abby Zwerner, the former schoolteacher who was shot by a 6-year-old student during a first grade reading class in January 2023, rested their case last week. They assert that former Richneck assistant principal Ebony Parker ignored several warnings the boy had a gun in school that day.
Attorneys for Parker, who is being sued for $40 million, rested their case Monday. The courts were closed for Election Day.
