The drug store chain Rite Aid has now closed all of its remaining locations nationwide after filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy earlier this year.
As of Monday morning, the Rite Aid website has shuttered to a single page that announces the closures, lets customers see which other pharmacy their prescription transferred to, and lets customers request prescription and immunization records.
Multiple phone numbers for the chain’s former Lehigh Valley locations automatically direct to a message saying that particular pharmacy had closed. The main number on the chain’s social media profiles also doesn’t connect.
“All Rite Aid stores have now closed,” a message on the chain’s website read. “We thank our loyal customers for their many years of support.”
Rite Aid previously wanted to sell more than 1,200 locations — including stores in Allentown, Bethlehem, Whitehall Township, Emmaus, Hellertown and Quakertown — after it announced its bankruptcy filing in May.
The last remaining Rite Aid locations in Pennsylvania had closed by the end of August, the Philadelphia Inquirer reported.
The chain was founded in 1962 in Scranton as Thrif D Discount Center before it changed to Rite Aid in 1968.
