Week 2 Varsity Football Rewind: Lake Mary wins battle of state runners-up

Lake Mary coach Scott Perry might not like his stress level being tested the way it has the past two weeks, but he’ll definitely take the 2-0 start for his Rams.

For the second time, Lake Mary (2-0) rallied to victory, this time taking down last year’s Class 6A state runner-up Kissimmee Osceola 17-12. A week ago, Lake Mary, the reigning 7A runner-up, needed late heroics to cap a 22-point deficit to defeat Miami Norland 30-29. The Rams are No. 4 in the Sentinel’s Super 16 Coaches poll, while Osceola is No. 6 this week.

“We need to find a way to start faster,” Lake Mary coach Scott Perry said.  “Give Osceola some credit. They did a good job slowing us down in the first half. Robinson’s return certainly shifted the momentum in our favor.”

Perry was talking about Josh Robinson. With Lake Mary trailing 12-3, he took the second-half kickoff 65 yards for a touchdown to start the rally.

Noah Grubbs put the Rams ahead for good with a 17-yard TD pass to Terence Dixon in the third quarter.
