Week 3, Super 16 Coaches Poll: Jones, Edgewater 1-2, but the rest shuffle

Jones, following its second straight shutout victory to start the season, was once again a unanimous No. 1 choice of the 15 coaches voting in this week’s Sentinel Super 16 Coaches Poll.

The top five teams, however, had a bit of shuffling. Edgewater remained at No. 2 and the Eagles and Jones are headed toward a huge showdown of possible unbeatens on Sept. 12 at Edgewater

Edgewater had one first-place vote, but behind the Eagles, Lake Mary (2-0) moved up one spot into the No. 3 position, and West Orange (2-0) dropped to No. 4.

Week 2 Varsity Football Rewind: Lake Mary tops Osceola; Jones, Edgewater win big

Bishop Moore was one of the bigger positive movers of the week, jumping two positions to No. 5 after a pair of opening-season routs over then-No. 6 Oviedo 68-35 and Orlando Christian Prep 49-7.

The biggest mover of the week was Boone (2-0), which dropped out of the poll last week. The Braves moved back in, climbing all the way up to No. 13 after a 22-16 victory over Hagerty .

The First Academy (0-2) dropped three spots to No. 8 after losing to Phenix City (Ala.) Central 38-35. Osceola (1-1) remained at No. 6 despite losing to then-No. 4 Lake Mary 17-12. The top 10 was rounded out by Dr. Phillips (1-1) at No. 7, Deland (2-0) at No. 9 and Ocoee (2-0) No. 10.

Lake Brantley (2-0), blowout winners in its first two games, moved up a spot to No. 11.

Winter Park, which has started the season 0-2 for the first time since the 2019 season, dropped four spots to No. 15. South Lake (2-0), No. 15 last week, dropped out of the poll despite a big victory over Lake County rival Tavares on Friday night.
