Where’s the best hole-in-the-wall sandwich spot in CT? Here’s how it was decided.

According to a survey by Chowhound, a Connecticut deli has captured No. 1 in the state for best hole-in-the-wall sandwich spot.

Gaetano’s Deli in Stratford is a deli and market and its flagship location is in an “unassuming, renovated house,” according to the report. The deli is inspired by Little Italy in the Bronx and is known for its Italian paninis. Gaetano’s has over two dozen options with sandwiches named the Mona Lisa and the Bronx Bomber.

It has two other locations in Connecticut – one in Westport and one in Shelton.

To determine which places were best, the report looked at “social media chatter, press coverage and industry awards to identify the places that consistently earn passionate praise from devoted regulars and first-time visitors alike.”

A CT woman opened a new food store. Her ‘meet-the-farmer model’ draws from growers across the state.
