William & Mary surges to road victory, moves over .500 in CAA

Needing to regain its flowing offensive form somewhere other than Williamsburg, William & Mary did that and more Thursday night at Cabot Gymnasium in Boston.

The Tribe zoomed past Northeastern 94-67, shooting 54.7%, sinking 12 3-pointers and accumulating 27 assists.

Cade Haskins had 17 points, hitting five 3-point shots. Ryan Jackson Jr. scored 14 points on 5-of-6 shooting, and junior Tunde Vahlberg Fasasi had 12 points, six rebounds and a career-high six assists.

Chase Lowe had eight points, eight rebounds and four assists, Kyle Pulliam had eight points, five rebounds and three assists, and Reese Miller had eight points and four assists.

The Tribe (16-9, 7-6 Coastal Athletic Association) is part of a tight pack jockeying for tournament position. W&M is tied with Drexel for fifth place, and the top four seeds after each team has played 18 league games will gain byes to the quarterfinals.

W&M led 10-2 and by as many as 12 points in a first half that ended 45-34.

The last-place Huskies (6-18, 2-11) surged to within 49-47, but after it was 54-50, the Tribe reeled off 11 unanswered points to take control. A 16-2 burst made it 90-60, ensuring that W&M would gain its seventh victory in 15 games away from Kaplan Arena.

The Huskies’ Xavier Abreu led all scorers with 24 points.

W&M next will play at 2 p.m. Saturday at Kaplan Arena against Elon, and MASN will televise it.

James Madison 81, Georgia State 79, OT: Cliff Davis scored seven of his season-high 26 points in overtime, including the winning driving layup, as the Dukes (13-13, 5-8 Sun Belt) edged the Panthers (9-17, 6-7) in Harrisonburg.

Davis had five steals, Justin McBride had 22 points and nine rebounds, and Gabe Newhof had 11 points for JMU.

Jelani Hamilton had 28 points and seven rebounds for Georgia State, which erased a 15-point deficit early in the second half. Micah Tucker had 20 points, five assists and two steals, and his difficult jumper from the right baseline forced overtime at a 70-70 tie. But he missed a driving layup just before the OT buzzer.

UNC Asheville 79, Longwood 74: Toyaz Solomon’s 24 points and 13 rebounds led the Bulldogs (12-13, 6-5 Big South) in Farmville. Justin Wright added 24 points, five assists and four steals.

Fats Billups led the Lancers (13-14, 5-7), finishing with 20 points and two steals off the bench. Elijah Tucker added 15 points and 11 rebounds.
