A 43-year-old woman allegedly shot her father to death Tuesday morning near a middle school in West Palm Beach, police said.
The shooting happened shortly before 8:30 a.m. in the 4100 block of Haden Avenue, West Palm Beach Police said in a news release, which is in a neighborhood near Bak Middle School of the Arts. Officers found Leroy Scott, 75, had been shot multiple times and pronounced him dead shortly after trying to give him medical aid.
His daughter Leah Scott was arrested about two miles away an hour-and-a-half later, the police department said. The news release did not provide details about the preliminary investigation leading to her arrest or where she was found when officers arrested her.
Scott is facing one count of first-degree murder and one count of discharging a firearm within 1,000 feet of a school, the department said.
WPEC-Ch. 12, the South Florida Sun Sentinel’s news partner, reported that the school district’s police department first alerted West Palm Beach Police to the shooting.
The police department did not provide further information about where the shooting happened along Haden Avenue.
The shooting happened about five minutes before the start of school. Ch.12 reported that the campus was placed on a temporary “code yellow” lockdown.
