A woman has been charged in connection to the drug overdose death of a juvenile from Portsmouth.
Jessica Alyse Cirilli, a 41-year-old Suffolk resident, was arrested Saturday, according to a release. The arrest stems from a call on Oct. 11 about an unresponsive male juvenile in the 4000 block of Wyndybrow Drive, a neighborhood off Cedar Lane in Portsmouth’s Churchland neighborhood.
The juvenile was pronounced dead at the scene. It was later determined he died from a fentanyl overdose and Portsmouth detectives identified Cirilli as the person who supplied the fentanyl, according to police.
Cirilli is charged with involuntary manslaughter, possession with intent to distribute in a school zone, possession with intent to distribute to a minor, possession with intent to distribute schedule I or II controlled substance, and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
This marks the first time the Portsmouth Police Department has charged a suspect under the new state statute addressing involuntary manslaughter related to certain drug offenses, which went into effect in July, according to the release.
The investigation is ongoing and no other details have been released.
