Wrong way driver charged with DUI after fleeing head-on collision on Route 2 in East Hartford

A Pennsylvania man is facing multiple charges, including DUI, after fleeing the scene of a wrong way, head-on collision on Route 2 in East Hartford on Sunday.

Troopers responded to a wrong way crash on Route 2 East near Exit 2B around 3:51 a.m. on Sunday, according to Connecticut State Police.

State police said a 20-year-old woman from Glastonbury was traveling eastbound on Route 2 in a Hyundai Elantra when she was struck head-on by a Jeep Wrangler going the wrong way.

The Jeep driver then allegedly fled the scene, according to state police.

The Hyundai driver reported injuries and was transported to Hartford Hospital for treatment, state police said.

Troopers later located the Jeep driver, identified as 24-year-old Nolan Murphy-Genoa of Hershey, Pennsylvania. According to state police, he was allegedly showing signs of impairment in his speech and actions and was taken into custody. He was transported to Troop H in Hartford where he was asked to perform standardized field sobriety tests, which he allegedly failed, state police said.

Murphy-Genoa was found at fault for the collision and charged with evading responsibility with injury, operating under the influence, driving the wrong way on the highway, reckless driving and first-degree reckless endangerment. He was released on a $5,000 bond and is scheduled to appear at Manchester Super Court on Oct. 29.
