One person is dead, and another seriously injured after a crash involving three tractor-trailers that shut down Florida’s Turnpike.
The crash happened early Wednesday morning, shutting down the Florida’s Turnpike just past southbound mile marker 248 in Osceola County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The driver of a semi-tractor with a double trailer, the driver of a Volvo semi-tractor trailer and the driver of a Freightliner were all in the outside lane.
The Freightliner driver was in front of the Volvo driver, with the semi-tractor double-trailer driver behind both.
Drivers of the Freightliner and Volvo were slowing down for traffic, but the semi-tractor double-trailer driver failed to observe, according to FHP.
The semi-tractor crashed into the Volvo, which in turn caused the Volvo to collide with the Freightliner.
The semi-tractor burst into flames, and the driver was pronounced dead on the scene.
First responders transported the Volvo driver to the Osceola Regional Medical Center with serious injuries.
The driver of the Freightliner wasn’t injured and remained on scene.
Florida Highway Patrol said the crash remains under investigation.
