NORFOLK — State police are investigating an apparent shooting early Monday morning on Interstate 64.
Around 2:10 a.m., troopers were notified that a vehicle pulled over to the right eastbound shoulder of I-64, near the Norview Avenue on-ramp, after the driver said the vehicle had been shot, according to a release.
The driver said he was traveling east in the far left lane of I-64 when a black Infiniti sped up behind him. The driver moved over a lane to the right and said there was a verbal confrontation before a shot was fired from the Infiniti, police said.
No one was injured.
At least four other interstate shootings have occurred since June in Hampton Roads. On June 1, a shooting on I-64 East in Hampton, near the exit ramp for Neil Armstrong Parkway, resulted in a crash that left two people injured. On June 5, there was another shooting in Hampton in the eastbound lanes near the Mercury Boulevard exit. No injuries were reported. On Sept. 24, a Gloucester woman died after being shot in the eastbound lanes near the Busch Gardens exit in York County. On Oct. 2, a 19-year-old was killed after the SUV he was riding in, filled with four other teenagers, was shot at in the westbound lanes close to exit 281, near Military Highway and Norfolk International Airport.
Monday’s shooting remains under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Virginia State Police Division 5 dispatch at 804-750-8788 or email questions@vsp.virginia.gov.
