CT high school student taken to hospital following ‘overdose’ in school bathroom

A high school student in Plainfield was taken to the hospital after he allegedly ingested a gummy and experienced an “overdose” on Thursday morning in the school’s bathroom, police said.

Emergency crews responded to Plainfield High School at 9:10 a.m. on the report of an overdose in a bathroom where first responders found a 16-year-old student who was conscious and alert, according to the Plainfield Police Department.

Police said the teen had ingested an unknown substance.

According to a statement issued by Superintendent of Plainfield Public Schools Paul M. Brenton, the student had allegedly taken a gummy and showed “signs of a reaction.” Brenton described the teen as “conscious and communicative” during the incident.

According to police, the teen was taken to a local hospital for an evaluation. Officials said the school was placed “on a hold” to allow first responders to provide medical attention. It was lifted shortly thereafter and normal school operations resumed.

“Plainfield Public Schools is working closely with the Plainfield Police Department and the student’s family to conclude the investigation of this incident,” Brenton said. “At this time, there is no ongoing threat to the school community. Plainfield Public Schools remains committed to ensuring the health and safety of all students and staff.”

Police said the incident remains under investigation.
