CT man allegedly breaks into elementary school and takes food, drinks, pens and a folding lawn chair

A man questioned during an investigation into a tripped alarm at an elementary school in New Hartford was arrested Monday after he allegedly admitting to taking food, drinks, pens and a folding lawn chair from the building.

Troopers from Troop B in North Canaan were dispatched to Ann Antolini Elementary School at 30 Antolini Drive in New Hartford just before 12:45 a.m. on Monday for a reported general premise alarm, according to the Connecticut State Police.

Troopers located a shirtless man in front of the Nepaug Fire Department located near the school and observed that he had multiple skin abrasions, was wearing dark colored shorts and one black sock and was allegedly talking rapidly, state police said.

The man was identified as 39-year-old Adam Wesolowski of New Hartford. When asked why he was in the area, Wesolowski allegedly said that he was walking in the woods and lost his flashlight and shirt. Troopers asked Wesolowski if he was previously in the area of the school, to which he allegedly said he was not, according to state police.

A trooper stayed with Wesolowski while other units went to check the alarm at the school, state police said.

According to state police, troopers at the school located an unsecured window. Based on this finding, Wesolowski was detained. A pat down search of Wesolowski allegedly led state police to the discovery of two separate types of prescription medication in his pockets. Wesolowski allegedly said the medication was not prescribed to him, state police said.

A search of the school led to the discovery of recently eaten food in the kitchen area of the building, according to state police. At the front entrance of the Nepaug Fire Department, state police allegedly found food waste, writing utensils and a single black sock laying around a lawn chair.

Wesolowski was again asked if he was at the elementary school, at which point he allegedly admitted to entering the school through a window, state police said. Wesolowski also allegedly admitted to taking food, drinks, pens and a folding lawn chair from the school.

Wesolowski was arrested and was transported to Troop B where he was processed on charges of failure to keep narcotics in original container, possession of a controlled substance, third-degree burglary and sixth-degree larceny. He was later released from custody on a $5,000 bond and is scheduled to appear at Torrington Superior Court on Oct. 14.

According to state police, school administration was advised of the incident.
