Division I prospect Aiden Kasch may be a ‘jack-of-all-trades’ for Hobart. But he’s also a 1-man wrecking crew.

Hobart junior Aiden Kasch has an abundance of talent.

But the 6-foot-4, 230-pound tight end/defensive end also has a work ethic to match.

“He’s relentless,” Hobart coach Eric Schreiber Jr. said. “Definitely every play, he gives it everything he has. His effort is up there as far as some of the best I’ve ever seen in terms of what he gives play in, play out.

“He’s definitely a big part of what we’ve been able to accomplish so far and what we’ll hopefully accomplish here in the future. He’s an incredible kid.”

Hobart junior quarterback Aleks Tatum expressed a similar sentiment.

“To start off, Kasch is just a great guy on and off the field,” Tatum said. “He’s able to make a difference on both sides of the ball. He’s super explosive and can make big plays out of the backfield, and on defense, he’s a force to be reckoned with.

“On top of all this, he’s a great leader, and although he can be quiet at times, his actions speak tenfold. If you ask any person on the team, I bet they’ll tell you that Kasch demonstrates what it means to be a Brickie, playing not as an individual but rather a team player, with grit, toughness, and, above all, heart.”

Kasch keeps it on an even keel.

“I’m a pretty well-rounded guy,” he said. “I’m decent on both sides of the ball. I’ve just been trying to do the best I can on both sides of the ball and give it all I got.”

Before the Brickies (4-1, 2-1) played Lowell in a Northwest Crossroads Conference showdown on Friday, Kasch had six catches for 68 yards and a touchdown, 21 carries for 178 yards and two TDs, and 25 tackles with a team-high four for loss and a team-high two sacks.

“He’s kind of a jack-of-all-trades in terms of his athletic ability,” Schreiber said. “We try to find different ways to get him the ball on a variety of looks. He’s gotten some carries at running back, and he’ll get more here into the future just because of his ability. He’s played some wing for us. He’s played in the slot. He’s done a multitude of different things for us.

“He’s our anchor on defense that sets the tone for the rest of those guys.”

Regardless of the task, Kasch simply executes it.

“He’s a kid who doesn’t ask questions and just goes,” Schreiber said. “It’s like, ‘All right, coach. Whatever you need me to do, I’ll do it.’ He’s going to give it everything he’s got, that’s for sure.

“He’s incredible on both sides of the ball. He has the ability to do it. If you’re that good, you shouldn’t be coming off the field much.”

Kasch began playing football in seventh grade. As a freshman, he was limited to offense, making three catches for 27 yards. His responsibilities expanded last season, when he had 13 catches for 163 yards and a TD, eight carries for 93 yards and two TDs, and 41 tackles with 10.5 for loss and 5.5 sacks.

“When I started playing, I just fell in love with it,” Kasch said. “I got a chance to play varsity my freshman year, and I’ve been playing ever since. I fell in love with the process. It really helped me with grades and all that too. It kept me accountable. It built character, getting work done and dedication.

“Sophomore year was a big jump. The game was slowing down. It was getting easier. This year, I’ve just been trying to build.”

Kasch has drawn interest from colleges such as Indiana, Miami of Ohio, Eastern Michigan, Western Michigan and Austin Peay.

“He’s a very humble kid, modest,” Schreiber said. “There’s a variety of schools that know he’s there. It’s just about being able to put it on tape. All it takes is one offer, and the rest come along. He’s waiting for that opportunity. He’s going to be a great kid wherever he goes.”
