A man was seriously injured when the moped he was riding was involved in a collision with a vehicle in Deep River on Sunday night.
The crash was reported just before 8:20 p.m. in the area of Union Street and Elm Street, according to Connecticut State Police.
Riding a 2007 Vento Zip LI moped south on Union Street towards the Elm Street intersection, a 31-year-old Clinton man struck a 2009 Ford Focus SE after the Focus driver had stopped at the intersection, state police said. The driver of the Focus, a 53-year-old Old Saybrook man, was heading west on Elm Street and had come to a stop at the intersection before continuing west when the collision occurred, according to state police.
The moped rider was seriously injured and was taken in an ambulance to Yale Hospital, state police said. The Focus driver did not report any injuries.
The road was shut down in the area of the crash while crews were at the scene. The collision remains under investigation.
