Multiple officers in ‘grave condition’ in Pennsylvania shooting: reports

Multiple police officers were shot and some are in grave condition after attempting to serve a warrant Thursday afternoon in southern Pennsylvania, according to multiple reports.

The suspect, who has not been publicly identified, died from a self-inflicted gunshot at the scene in North Codorus Township, sources told Philadelphia NBC affiliate WCAU.

Three officers, all members of the Northern York Regional Police Department, are in grave condition, sources told NBC News. A fourth member of the department is in critical condition, and a York County Sheriff’s deputy was also wounded, according to the network.

“Please send prayers to the officers and those involved in the shooting in York County,” Pennsylvania Lt. Gov. Austin Davis wrote on social media. “As we learn more, follow all guidance from police and stay away from the area.”

A massive law enforcement presence was on the scene at a rural road in the township. Gov. Josh Shapiro said he was also traveling to the scene just southwest of York, about 90 miles west of Philadelphia.

Exact details of the incident remained unclear early Thursday evening. A reporter with the York Daily Record said they witnessed an officer being loaded into a helicopter.

The nearby Spring Grove Area School District issued a shelter-in-place for all buildings in response to what it described as an “officer-involved incident,” according to local Fox affiliate WPMT.

The Mexican Consulate in Philadelphia initially said it was monitoring the situation but deleted its social media post about an hour after sending it. Southern Pennsylvania draws a significant number of migrant farm workers, many of whom come from Mexico.

This is a developing story.
