Southland crime: Armed violence in Homewood, road rage in Oak Lawn, and more

The following items were taken from police and court reports and news releases. An arrest does not constitute a finding of guilt.

Bridgeview

ARMED ROBBERY: A cellphone and tablet computer were reported taken at gunpoint July 29 from an individual attempting a person-to-person sale in a parking lot in the 7700 block of Cicero Avenue, police said.

DOMESTIC: Junquil D. Barrett, 29, Aurora, was arrested Aug. 10 and subsequently charged with aggravated domestic battery Aug. 9 in the 8500 block of 77th Court, police said.

Evergreen Park

GUN POSSESSION: Megan A. Sheedy, 29, Chicago, was charged Aug. 3 with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and also accused of unlawful possession of more than 100 grams of cannabis and unlawful possession of ammunition, police said. Sheedy was arrested Aug. 2 after officers recovered a 9 mm handgun with a loaded standard magazine, a 9 mm handgun with a loaded drum magazine, eight bullets and 4.8 ounces of marijuana during an Aug. 2 stop at 95th Street and Springfield Avenue, police said.

Homewood

ARMED VIOLENCE: Alex Bates, 19, 700 block of Palm Drive, Glenwood, was charged with armed violence, possession of a gun with no serial number, aggravated unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of cannabis with intent to deliver after officers conducting July 30 speed enforcement in the 1100 block of 183rd Street recovered a 9 mm handgun without serial numbers, a bag containing 2 ½ ounces of cannabis, a scale and measuring tools, police said.

Lansing

GUN POSSESSION: Rachael A. Hamilton, 34, Merrillville, Indiana, was charged Aug. 17 with possessing a firearm without a valid gun permit after officers recovered a .40 caliber handgun and loaded magazine in the 16800 block of Torrence Avenue, police said.

Lockport

BURGLARY ALLEGED: Joseph G. Pizzio, 45, 302 Bradford Court, Lockport, is scheduled to appear in Will County court Sept. 15, charged with burglary, unlawful possession of a credit/debit card and vehicular trespassing, according to court records online. Pizzio was indicted July 16 on the charge, which stems from a June 6 car break-in in the 1200 block of East 9th Street, according to court records and police.

AGGRAVATED BATTERY: Michael Holguin, 29, 16300 block of Spring View Drive, Lockport, is scheduled to appear in Will County court Sept. 11, charged with aggravated battery to a police officer, according to court records online.

Mokena

ELDER ABUSE: Michael L. Schaefer, 30, 9000 block of Willow Lane, Mokena, is scheduled to appear in Will County court Sept. 24, charged with aggravated battery/victim at least 60, according to court records online. Schaefer hit a 75-year-old man in the head with a wooden railing and kicked him in the head June 22, police said.

Monee

CHILD PORNOGRAPHY: Antonio D. Stokes Jr., 24, 600 block of 166th Street, South Holland, is scheduled to appear in Will County court Sept. 30, charged with recording child pornography and aggravated criminal sexual abuse of a child younger than 13 on Feb. 15, according to court records online.

FORGERY CHARGED: Joshua Fox, 34, Calumet City, is scheduled to appear in Will County court Sept. 17, charged with forgery and theft, according to court records online. Fox was indicted March 20 in connection with an attempt to deposit an altered $3,837.56 check into the account of an individual who had lost his debit card in October 2024, according to police and court records.

New Lenox

DOMESTIC: Ira Burdine, 48, 100 block of Twilight Lane, New Lenox, is scheduled to appear in Will County court Sept. 18, charged with aggravated domestic battery/strangle and domestic battery, according to court records online.

ATTEMPTED ROBBERY: One of two masked males pistol-whipped an employee Sept. 1 during an attempted armed robbery at a store in the 700 block of East Lincoln Highway, police said. The duo fled empty-handed after they were unable to access the safe, police said.

Oak Lawn

ROAD RAGE: A motorist told police on July 25 that another motorist displayed a handgun at 87th Street and Sproat Avenue, uttered a veiled threat and then drove away after both drivers exited their vehicles. The complainant said the two were cutting each other’s vehicles off from 87th Street and Central Avenue, police said.

DEALING ALLEGED: Courtney Coombs, undisclosed block of Broadway, Blue Island, was charged Aug. 5 with possession of more than 15 grams of heroin with intent to deliver, possession of more than 15 grams of cocaine with intent to deliver and manufacture/delivery of up to 15 grams of cocaine following an Aug. 5 stop in the 9000 block of Cicero Avenue, police said. The charge stems from officers’ recovery of five cellphones, $249 in different denominations and a $100 bill used in a controlled buy immediately prior to the stop and the subsequent recovery of about 32 grams of suspected “crack” cocaine in 12 bags and nearly 19 grams of suspected heroin during a search at the police station lockup police said.

Orland Park

DUI CRASH: Juan J. Correa-Cruz, 26, 9000 block of Lincoln Court, Orland Park, was arrested Aug. 3 and accused of drunken driving, child endangerment, improper lane use, failing to reduce speed to avoid a collision, illegal transportation of alcohol and driving without proof of insurance after hitting several parkway trees in the 10400 block of 152nd Street, police said.

RETAIL THEFT: A Kankakee County man was arrested Aug. 6 in the 9100 block of 159th Street after taking merchandise selling for $1,465 from a department store at Orland Park Place, police said. Bret A. Johnson, 32, Pembroke Township, was subsequently charged with felony retail theft.

DUI CRASH: Justin J. Cihak, 42, Geneva, was arrested Aug. 11 in the 15800 block of 86th Avenue and charged with drunken driving, failing to give information/render aid and failing to reduce speed to avoid a collision during a two-vehicle crash investigation in the 9100 block of 95th Street, police said.

Park Forest

GUN POSSESSION: LaShaye S. Harrison, 23, Chicago, was arrested Aug. 3 in the 200 block of Sangamon Street by officers responding to a report of a woman brandishing a gun after they recovered a .22 millimeter pistol and determined she lacked a gun permit, police said.
