Week 5 Sentinel Super 16 Coaches Poll: Edgewater solidifies No. 1 spot; Bishop Moore climbs

Edgewater solidified its spot atop the Sentinel’s Super 16 Coaches Poll this week after a thrilling 20-17 victory over No. 2 Jones on Friday.

The victory impressed voting coaches enough to put some distance between the rest of the Super 16 teams, as the Eagles received all but two of the first-place votes. Jones (2-2) and DeLand (4-0) received the others. The loss dropped Jones to No. 3. DeLand, which remains unbeaten, moved up from No. 10 to No. 7.

Week 4 Football Rewind: Edgewater kicks Jones; 8 others remain unbeaten

Bishop Moore and its high-scoring offense — the Hornets are averaging 52 points — moved into the No. 2 spot. That is the highest ranking for Bishop Moore since winning the Class 5A state title in 2015.

Kissimmee Osceola (3-1) moved into the No. 4 spot ahead of this week’s showdown with No. 3 Jones. Dr. Phillips (3-1) rounded out the top five. Three other unbeaten teams remain in the Super 16 at 4-0 with Boone, Lake Brantley and Windermere, which has its highest-ever ranking at No. 14.

Former No. 5 Lake Mary (2-2) saw the biggest tumble this week, dropping seven spots to No. 12 after a 51-3 loss to Jacksonville power Raines (3-0). Seminole (2-2) dropped out of the rankings for the first time since 2015.
