William & Mary cornerback Jalen Jones, a Chesapeake native and former Deep Creek High star, has accepted an invitation to the American Bowl, which will be held on Jan. 22 in Orlando, Florida.

The game kicks off at 8 p.m. and will be televised by NFL Network.

Jones has been named an All-American by five organizations this season and is a three-time first-team All-Coastal Athletic Association selection and two-time Buck Buchanan Award finalist.

ODU DL Williams declares for draft

Old Dominion defensive lineman Ricardo Williams Jr. announced Tuesday on social media that he is declaring for the NFL draft.

The 6-foot-2, 292-pound senior from Jackson, Mississippi, had 18 tackles, including three for loss, two quarterback hurries and a fumble recovery this season.

He played two seasons for the Monarchs after one for Georgia State.

Tim Hamann, a five-star kicker from St. Anne’s-Belfield High in Charlottesville, announced on social media he will play for Virginia. He kicked a school-record 53-yard field goal against Fork Union Military this past season.
Virginia defensive end Cazeem Moore announced on social media that he will declare for the 2026 NFL draft. The 6-4, 252-pound Vanceboro, North Carolina, native had 18 tackles and three sacks this season.
Virginia Tech defensive back Caleb Brown will enter the transfer portal, according to 247 Sports. The 6-1, 171-pound Anniston, Alabama, native missed most of this season with an injury that required surgery.
Virginia Tech tight end Zeke Wimbush is headed to the transfer portal, according to 247 Sports. The 6-2, 246-pound sophomore is from Ashburn.

COLLEGE BASKETBALL

ODU to host App State Wednesday

The Old Dominion men will resume Sun Belt Conference play at 2 p.m. Wednesday against Appalachian State at Chartway Arena.

The Monarchs are 4-10 overall and 1-1 in the Sun Belt, while the Mountaineers are 8-6 and 1-1.

The game will be streamed on ESPN+.

Guard KC Shaw leads the Monarchs with 16.3 points a game. Guard Kasen Jennings leads App State with 15.4 points a game.

William & Mary will host Stony Brook in a 2 p.m. game Wednesday that will be broadcast on CBS Sports Network. The Tribe (10-3) have won eight of nine.
Hampton will host Towson at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday in a CAA game at the Convocation Center. The Pirates (7-7) won their CAA opener over Stony Brook 62-59 on Monday night.

UVA star Godfrey signs with NWSL’s San Diego Wave

Lia Godfrey, a graduate midfielder for the Virginia women’s team, signed a professional contract with San Diego Wave FC of the National Women’s Soccer League.

A first-team All-America honoree in 2025, Godfrey was the Atlantic Coast Conference Midfielder of the Year and an All-ACC first-team honoree in 2025. She tallied 11 goals and four assists
